We are very proud of the World Yoga Center.  Decades after we opened our doors in 1972, we are still here at our original address. Only Yoga has been practiced in our beautiful space and the atmosphere here is unusually pristine and serene.

The name ”World Yoga Center” was inspired by the International World Yoga Symposium held in New Delhi, India, in 1970. Our name reminds us that the teachings and practices of Yoga reach beyond divisions of East and West, into our core as human beings. They are compatible with our life in this country and provide transformational knowledge that radically awakens us to the mystery of life. This underlying vision of Yoga continues to sustain the school.

The History of The World Yoga Center

1972
Impacted by the tutelage of Swami Satchidananda, Werner Erhard Rabbi Carlebach, and other extraordinary teachers of the consciousness-raising generation of the seventies, Rudrani opened the school with Hatha classes, meditation courses and retreats in the style of Integral Yoga.  

1974
Swami Muktananda’s second world tour brought inner experiences and teachings that transformed the school's curriculum, deepened its intention, and created a lasting relationship with the energy of the Siddha lineage. The extraordinary path of inner awakenment called Siddha Yoga is currently under the leadership of Swami Chidvilasananda. Read more about Siddha Yoga.

1976
The World Yoga Center launched its first successful teacher training and continues to train spiritually dedicated teachers known for their comprehensive background and superior abilities. Our teacher trainings include transformational work on the ego inspiring  graduates to offer heartfelt service to the world.

2001
The World Yoga Center became an Anusara Yoga school. Created by John Friend, this Hatha Yoga method includes a strong base in the Tantric philosophy of unity awareness and opening to infinite energies. Teachings emanating from Anusara Yoga are derived from John’s lasting relationship to the Siddha lineage.  Read more about Anusara Yoga.

2002
The World Yoga Center became a Yoga Alliance registered teacher training school. 

2004
Rudrani created a dynamic and creative teaching team with Jackie Prete, Certified Anusara Yoga Instructor. Together, they co-lead World Yoga Center Special Programs including teacher trainings, immersions, workshops, retreats, and Kirtans.  Read more about Jackie and Rudrani here. The school is dedicated to the process of self-discovery and awakenment through practices that include asana, meditation, study of the teachings, chanting and Satsang. Our rich array of weekly classes not only bring students into the physical practices, with the help of our gifted faculty, but act as a gateway into higher energies.  Our community evolves together, learning from one another in an atmosphere of friendship and higher purpose. The school is known for its spiritually vibrant atmosphere or its “Shakti” and has a flourishing support program of work study and individual counseling.
