THE IMMERSION & TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMS
|
The World Yoga Center is a registered Teacher Training school with the
Yoga Alliance. The Immersions and Teacher Trainings are for both
aspiring Yoga teachers and committed students who want to take their
practices to a deeper level. Enter these programs to discover the
secret heart of Yoga and the power of the inner practices that move
your life forward.
The Immersions
The Immersion Program is open to all students, whether you are new,
seasoned or an aspiring Yoga teacher. The Immersion Program is a
prerequisite to WYC Teacher Training and all Yoga students are welcome.
An Immersion is a wonderful opportunity for Yoga students to deepen and
widen their practice. Immersion participants become infused with the
radiant practices of Anusara Yoga. Through intensive weekends of study
with regular Hatha Yoga classes, meditations, inspired readings, and
the ongoing guidance of the trainers, the Immersion allows sustained
contact with the essence of Yoga. This transformative journey is
designed to create the experience of a long retreat. The radical,
life-affirming philosophy of Anusara Yoga facilitates new levels of
awareness and opening of the heart. Immersion I, II and III are
required if you are considering entering the Teacher Training Program.
Teacher Training
The World Yoga Center Teacher Training Certification Program is
dedicated to the power of Yoga and to the teachers who aspire to become
its carriers. The training leads new teachers on an inner journey
into the vast realm of Yoga as a tradition. As new teachers learn
to open their heart and mind, they gain the ability to create classes
filled with spiritual aliveness and energy. We are seeking to
train teachers who will help make a more compassionate world and who
are drawn to the inner dimensions of Yoga. This training is meant
to touch our humanity and train us to become all we can be so that we
may take the “seat of the teacher” with genuine confidence.
This unique ten-month, Yoga Alliance Registered Program provides the
groundwork for those who are called to the vocation of a Hatha Yoga
teacher in the Anusara Yoga style. It is an in-depth investigation of
the disciplines, practices, scriptures, and teachings that are at the
heart of Yoga. Each new teacher is given the skills, the craft,
the wide-ranging philosophical teachings and the experience necessary
to enter the Yoga community as a professional. The Program intends to
establish students on their own path of transformation and evolution as
well as pass along the craft of teaching. By sustained effort and
focused study, new teachers are empowered to transmit Yoga out of their
own natural core of love and compassion.
Our 30 years of experience training teachers at the WYC shows us that a
group that moves through the whole program together is an invaluable
gift. This group grows together, immersed in the study and practice
over a period of time, empowering and supporting each other to the very
core of their lives. The training group provides a strong, uplifting
community that inspires each participant to great heights within
themselves. Students planning on enrolling in the 2009/2010 WYC Teacher
Training Program will need to complete WYC's Immersion I, II and III,
or an equivalent immersion program of 108 hours with a certified
Anusara Yoga instructor.
The Immersion Program
gives participants a comprehensive overview of Yoga. Topics include
philosophy, history of Yoga, universal principles of alignment,
cultivating a personal practice of Meditation, Asana (many common poses
are covered) and Pranayama; Mantra, Satsang, Anatomy and Self inquiry.
The Teacher Training Program
joyously wends its way through a full, rich curriculum and encourages
the development of a wide variety of inner skills needed for
teaching. The teacher training covers an extensive syllabus
of poses, hands-on adjustments, teaching practice, class composition,

Over the course of thirty years of training teachers, the World Yoga
Center training program remains committed to retaining its spiritual
moorings in the ancient tradition of Yoga, keeping the potency of those
practices as a means of spiritual transformation.
More and more people approach the World Yoga Center asking for
"certification". Since outer "fitness" based yoga abounds
everywhere, we hope to make a special contribution. As a recent
graduate said "It is called the inner alignment of a true yoga
teacher". We are looking to train yoga teachers who can
carry knowledge and higher consciousness to others as well as physical
practices and knowledge of alignment.
Students in training are exposed to the scriptures, teachings and
practices and become open to the power of these, each in his or her own
way. As they continue developing their mastery of asanas, they
are also gaining strength inwardly and becoming more able to transmit
the inner heart of yoga, the inner awareness.
This is a subtle process in which significant shifts and inner growth
happen spontaneously in a climate of compassion, camaraderie and mutual
respect. It is our intention to keep the training as a natural
unfoldment, based on traditional yogic methods of learning and
transformation, as well as Western methods of scholarship and study, to
give students that mysterious "gestation period" needed to become a
true yoga teacher from within. WYC certification represents a
successful launching of a true yoga teacher capable of teaching
professionally.
The World Yoga Center is a teacher training school registered with the
National Yoga Alliance. Successful completion of the WYC Teacher
Training Certification Program gives you the title of Registered Hatha
Yoga teacher in the Anusara Yoga style. Please note that
certification is for the Teacher Training Program only.

"I did not come to the immersion expecting a big change or
some "result" -- I really thought I'd do a lot of hatha yoga and learn
about alignment. Yet, in retrospect, I realize my spirit was searching
for something. It is amazing to me how much I suddenly need and love
this process of self inquiry, meditation, and delving deeper. I feel
calmer, surer, and more content with my present."
"to be a yoga teacher means to walk your talk, to practice
what you preach, to share with others and give what you have inside you
authentically."
"What moved me forward, through various obstacles (during
the teacher training) was a firm definition of the integrity expected
and the collective agreement by the group on a subtle energetic level
to hold the container (i.e. agreements and commitment to the structures
of the training) and not break it."
